Digitalized Training Applied to Suppliers

Vittorio Lucaioli - Plant Manager
We’ve long been living in an era where the vast majority of the processes we interact with every day are digital. That’s why we’ve decided to promote the evolution of training—even for our suppliers—by adopting a more effective learning method.
The goal of this project is to make the supplier training approach more accessible, more fluid, and more engaging—maximizing learning. An added bonus is the motivational boost this new method provides to those managing supplier relationships.
Currently, supplier training involves an initial phase where topics such as health, safety, environment, GMP, and emergency procedures are explained verbally. This is followed by a paper-based test to assess the effectiveness of the training. This process takes about 20 minutes of SOL staff time.
The next phase involves managing the paperwork: the training record, the test itself (entered into a Google Drive format for statistical analysis), and tracking deadlines in an electronic file. All documentation is then reviewed by the plant manager and archived with the work order by the secretary. This adds another 15 minutes of staff time.
The new approach introduces a structured video covering all key topics, followed by a digital test that automatically records the result and updates the training expiration date.
What are the advantages of a digital system?
Adaptability: That’s why this video is in Italian—subtitles or real-time translations into any required language make the system flexible and accessible for everyone.
Accessibility: Training can be provided to suppliers before their visit. On-site time is limited to taking the digital test only.
Time and resource optimization: The new method significantly reduces the time spent by SOL staff both during in-person sessions and in managing post-training paperwork.
Green impact: This new approach has a highly positive environmental impact by drastically reducing the amount of printed material—along with the need for physical storage.
Motivational: The efficiency and flow of the new system make the process engaging and highly motivating for all involved.
Flexibility: A digital system is easy to update, making it adaptable for use at other facilities too.
Effective: That’s the second reason we’re using a video instead of a traditional slideshow. Video is more engaging and helps better capture attention—leading to more effective information delivery.

Ultimately, the new approach aligns with modern standards and integrates seamlessly into a system where business processes are increasingly digital.
